SLOWFISCH, a new event held in cooperation with Slow Food Deutschland, a German Slow Food trade fair, is set to be held in Bremen, Germany from November 7 to 9.
“We are expecting about 10,000 visitors”, says Sabine Wedell who is in charge of the project at organisers Messe and Ausstellungsgesellschaft Hansa GmbH.
“More and more people are paying attention to a responsible diet and high-quality food production. And that is exactly what Slow Food is about.”
Slow Food stands for sustainability, regional variety, traditional production methods and naturalness.
“We are very well versed in everything to do with fish,” says Ms Wedell.
"The SlowFisch fair will present marine products and foods that contribute towards a good fish menu – from spices and side-dishes to the right drink.”
A forum is also being planned with numerous lectures and discussions on the topic of seafood, and there is a special children’s programme for younger visitors.
Taste workshops are also scheduled to be included in the final programme. Here visitors can taste foods under the guidance of experts.
The products on display are selected in strict accordance with Slow Food criteria. This includes:
. Fish are not permitted to come from endangered stocks;
. All products have to be produced or caught under fair conditions in an environmentally friendly way in accordance with the species’ needs; and
. They should, as far as possible, be produced using regional raw materials.
This is true of traditional matje herring production, for example. Oysters from various regions will also be presented to the Bremen public. And there are plans for a special taste experience featuring European crawfish.
In accordance with the motto “Discover – Enjoy – Protect“, visitors of all ages will be introduced to products from marine and freshwater environments.
“We want our visitors to have fun with fish and we will help them get to know a variety of preparation methods,” continues Ms Wedell.
The fair will take place at the Bremen Exhibition Centre from November 7-9.
