Wester Ross fish farmer Colin Milne has lifted the Farm Manager of the Year Award at the Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards.
Colin joined Wester Ross Fisheries Ltd 24 years ago with no previous fish farming experience and has now established a reputation for a highly effective management style, consistently improving biological performance and commercial success.
Colin is also a significant shareholder in the business. He became one of four former managers involved in a management buyout of Wester Ross Fisheries Ltd two years ago.
The company is now the only wholly-owned indigenous salmon farm on mainland Scotland.
Dr Chris Beattie of Skretting said: ‘In over six years of working in Aquaculture feed management, I did not meet a site manager who had a more open mind or willingness to embrace new thinking coupled with an ability to combine new ideas with decades of knowledge and experience. During my time in the Scottish industry, I had the pleasure of meeting many capable and hard-working farm managers. What sets Colin apart is that in the absence of large-scale investment, he always found a way of quickly taking the essence of a new idea and putting it into practice. In a very tough working environment and with limited resources, Colin was able to get the best from his people and his fish.’
