Area IVbc mackerel fishery in the North Sea will be opened to all UK vessels fishing against the under 10 metre vessel pool allocation on July 5, the Marine and Fisheries Agency and other Fisheries Administrations announced (July 4).
The measure follows acquisition of 55 tonnes of mackerel quota from Producer Organisations.
There will be a monthly catch limit of 300 kg per vessel per month which will be kept under review.
The MFA has also secured additional quota for the under 10 metre fleet for the following species:
* North Sea plaice
* North Sea turbot and brill
* Area VII angler fish
* Area VIIde plaice
* Area VIIef herring
This additional quota will allow monthly catch limits for these stocks to be increased.

Should fisheries be closed during breeding time to allow stocks to reach more sustainable levels?
