ONE of the East Coast's leading fishing ports is preparing to launch a three day event that celebrates the traditions of the sea and the seafood it provides.
Starting next Friday, (July 18th) the Scarborough Seafest is designed to remind visitors that the Yorkshire and Humber area still provides some of the best fish in Britain.
One of Scarborough Seafest's most popular attractions the Seafood Kitchen which is on the North Wharf, where visitors will enjoy a range of different chefs demonstrating just how easy fish and shellfish are to cook and eat.
Scarborough is still the base for a number of conventional trawlers and, along with Bridlington, is also growing in importance as a shell fish port.
With a programme running next Saturday and Sunday, the Seafood Kitchen, sponsored by the Yorkshire & Humber Seafood Group, aims to give to new ideas of how to cook the produce of the sea.
Featured chefs and restaurants include BBC Radio 4 Chef Presenter Gerard Baker, Yorkshire's favourite Italian, Georgio Allessio and Café Fish owner, William Bell. New to the programme includes demonstrations by Barista Continental Café and Golden Grid Fish Restaurant.
Carl James, Project Manager of the Seafood Group said: "We are thrilled to be supporting this year's event. As with previous years, we will be cooking a variety of dishes and showing the public how to make the most of the high quality seafood that is landed off our coastline." The event includes a spectacular firework display next Saturday.
