A BLAZE in the engine room of Shetland fishing vessel Resilient yesterday afternoon (Thursday) resulted in fire damage to the engine and severe smoke damage to the engine room.
Nobody was reported hurt in the incident, but a spokeswoman for fire
services in Inverness said people were working aboard the 87 foot boat when she received the call and she asked them to leave the vessel.
The emergency call was taken at 3.10 pm and two fire crews from Lerwick attended the incident at Morrison Dock in the town's harbour.
The firemen locked down the engine compartment and "fired" the internal carbon dioxide system.
They waited 10 to 15 minutes to make sure the fire was extinguished, before entering with a hose reel jet and breathing apparatus to check that the fire was completely out before venting the engine room and accommodation area of the vessel which had suffered slight smoke damage.
