The Shellfish Association of Great Britain and the Billingsgate Seafood Training School have, with the support of Seafish, produced 7 short films showing how a complete novice can easily select, prepare and enjoy a number of popular species available in the UK.
To coincide with Seafood Fortnight 2008 our films have been uploaded to the widely-used You Tube website and have already received nearly 200 hits (and some very positive feedback!).
Around 80% of shellfish landed in the UK are exported; the bulk to France and Spain. It has been suggested that one of the reasons why our own shellfish are not as popular at home is the fear of what to do when purchased unprepared. This may explain why prawns are so popular - they are regularly sold ready to eat.
The aim of each film is to demonstrate how shellfish can be prepared from scratch in a matter of minutes and to demystify and promote a much
undervalued food. Please feel free to use/download/show to demonstrate
shellfish are the ultimate fast-food!
