The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) is pleased to announce that it is once again sponsoring the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year award at the 2013 National Fish and Chip Awards.
The NSC is encouraging independent fish and chip businesses across the UK to enter for the chance to not only take home the coveted title of Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year, but for the chance to visit Norway on an educational trip as one of the ten regional finalists. The finalists will enjoy a three-day trip to celebrate winning their ‘regional’ title to learn how Norway manages its sustainable fisheries in harmony with nature.
Last year’s educational trip offered the finalists a number of exciting experiences; a chance to see the world’s largest growing cod stock and the time to understand how they and their customers can enjoy Norwegian cod and haddock with a clear conscience.
Last year’s finalists enjoyed a rib boat ride, taking in Norway’s nature and beauty, a visit to one of Norway’s finest factory vessels the Ramoen, and a tour of its on-land cold storage facilities. They were shown around the vessels on-board filleting factory where fish are processed in just four hours, creating Norwegian frozen-at-sea fillets. The trip also included hands on line-fishing for Norwegian cod and dinner with industry experts, providing the finalists with the opportunity to learn about Norway’s sustainable fisheries management and the journey fish take from catch to plate.
Winning a National Fish and Chip award offers a range of business benefits, including the opportunity to showcase hard work, dedication and commitment to providing British consumers with delicious fish and chips. What’s more, winning an award is an excellent PR and marketing opportunity and can cement reputations as being one of the best in the business, and many fish and chip shops have seen significant increase in sales as a result.
Johan Kvalheim, UK and France Director of the NSC, said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year award for 2013. We saw so much talent in the British fish and chip industry last year and the trip to Norway was such a success that deciding to be involved again this year was easy.
“We had very positive feedback from the ten regional finalists that came on our trip to Norway last November, and we are very excited about offering the trip once again this year. We love nothing more than telling the world about our delicious cod from the cold, clear and sustainable seas of Norway and we are very much looking to welcoming the finalists out on the trip.”
For those that would like the opportunity to not only be named as the UK’s 2013 Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year but also have an expenses paid trip to visit Norway, now is the time to enter the National Fish and Chip Awards, Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year category.
